Day After Tomorrow
Read the puzzle
A row of seven day tiles reads MON, TUE, WED, THU, FRI, SAT, SUN, with SAT and SUN picked out in gold. Above them, one clue: "The day after tomorrow is Friday." The question asks: what day is today?
What day is today?
Count two days back from Friday.
Wednesday
Two days back from Friday: Thursday, then Wednesday.
How to solve it
Start from the clue and turn the words into a count. Tomorrow is one day after today, so the day after tomorrow is two days after today.
That means Friday sits two steps to the right of today on the row of tiles. To find today, walk two steps back to the left from Friday: one step lands on Thursday, a second step lands on Wednesday. So today is Wednesday.
The usual slip is to stop after one step and answer Thursday. That treats the clue as if it said "tomorrow is Friday". Another slip is to count forward from Friday instead of back, giving Sunday. Both come from reading the clue too fast and not fixing which day is "today" before counting.
Quick check: if today is Wednesday, tomorrow is Thursday and the day after tomorrow is Friday, which matches the clue exactly. Takeaway: turn every "yesterday" or "tomorrow" phrase into a plus or minus number of days, then count once.
