What Comes Next?
Read the puzzle
Four tiles each show an arrow and a row of dots: tile 1 points up with 1 dot, tile 2 points down-right with 2 dots, tile 3 points left with 3 dots, tile 4 points up-right with 4 dots. Options: A points down-left with 5 dots, B points down with 4 dots, C points down with 5 dots, D points up-left with 5 dots. Which tile, A, B, C or D, comes next?
Which tile, A, B, C or D, comes next?
C
Turn 135 degrees clockwise and add one dot.
How to solve it
There are two rules, one for the arrow and one for the dots, so check them separately.
Dots: 1, 2, 3, 4, so the next tile needs 5 dots. That rules out B, which has 4.
Arrow: measure each turn clockwise from straight up. Up is 0 degrees and down-right is 135, a turn of 135. Left is 270, and 270 - 135 = 135 again. Up-right is 45, which is 270 + 135 = 405, one full circle plus 45. So the arrow turns 135 degrees clockwise each step, and the next direction is 45 + 135 = 180 degrees: straight down.
The tile with a downward arrow and 5 dots is C.
The traps: A and D have the right number of dots but the arrow points the wrong way, and B has the right arrow but only 4 dots. Quick check: two more turns of 135 degrees would bring the arrow to 315, up-left, and then to 90, pointing right.
