Yesterday's Clue
Read the puzzle
A row of seven day tiles reads MON, TUE, WED, THU, FRI, SAT, SUN, with SAT and SUN in gold. A clue below says: "Yesterday was two days after Sunday." The question asks: what day is tomorrow?
What day is tomorrow?
Work out yesterday first, then count forward one day at a time.
Thursday
Yesterday was Tuesday, so today is Wednesday: tomorrow is Thursday.
How to solve it
Work in three small moves and write each one down.
First, decode the clue. Two days after Sunday is Monday (one day after) and then Tuesday (two days after). So yesterday was Tuesday.
Second, find today. Today is one day after yesterday, so today is Wednesday.
Third, answer the question that was actually asked. Tomorrow is one day after today, so tomorrow is Thursday. In total that is Sunday plus 2 plus 1 plus 1, which is four steps forward from Sunday: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
The common wrong answer is Wednesday. It comes from solving for today and then stopping, forgetting that the question asks about tomorrow. Another slip is to read "two days after Sunday" as today rather than yesterday, which gives Wednesday for tomorrow as well.
Quick check: if tomorrow is Thursday, today is Wednesday and yesterday was Tuesday, and Tuesday is indeed two days after Sunday.
