Fold, Fold, Punch
Read the puzzle
A square is folded along both diagonals into a quarter-size triangle, point down, then punched: a circle on the left, an up-pointing triangle on the right. All options keep this top quarter. Right, bottom and left quarters: A: circle above triangle; triangle left, circle right; triangle above circle. B: triangle above circle; circle left, triangle right; triangle above circle. C and D: triangle above circle; triangle left, circle right; circle above triangle. Triangles point outward in A, B and D, up in C. Which pattern appears when opened?
Which pattern appears when it is opened?
D
Each fold mirrors the holes across its crease.
How to solve it
Unfold one crease at a time and mirror the holes across each crease.
The folded triangle is the top quarter of the square, with its point at the centre. It holds a circle on the left and a triangle on the right, pointing up toward the top edge.
Open the first fold: the holes reflect into the next quarter. The triangle sits beside the top-right crease, so its copy sits beside that crease too, in the upper part of the right quarter, now pointing right; the circle lands in the lower part. Opening the rest the same way puts a circle above a left-pointing triangle in the left quarter, and a down-pointing triangle on the left with a circle on the right in the bottom quarter.
That layout, with every triangle pointing out toward its own edge, is pattern D.
The traps: A turns the holes around the centre like a pinwheel instead of mirroring them, B mirrors only some quarters correctly, and C keeps every triangle pointing up, as if the paper slid instead of flipping. Quick check: holes always sit symmetrically on both sides of every crease.
